Scotland’s energy sector is among the most significant in the UK. The country hosts most of the UK’s offshore oil and gas production, a growing share of the UK’s renewable generation capacity, and a concentration of energy companies, service firms, and research institutions. North Sea oil and gas remains a major employer, particularly in the north east. We report on production data from the North Sea Transition Authority, licensing rounds, field approvals, exploration activity, and the financial results of major operators. Aberdeen hosts the operational headquarters of most UK oil and gas companies, and the city’s business community is closely tied to sector performance. The transition to cleaner energy is the defining issue for the sector.
